The Skills & Certifications tab in My Info identifies your specialty attributes using skills and certifications. Using Skills & Certifications separates the effective date of the profile from the specialties, and eliminates the need to manage a person’s entire profile when specialty and certification date changes occur.
Legacy type specialties remain in the person Profile area with no change in functionality, the effective date of the profile is the effective date of the specialty. However, the use of Skills & Certifications is recommended when possible to simplify the overall maintenance of specialties, allow for date flexibility and greater control of specialty date changes.
Security permission settings of type Person in Setup > Authority control the ability to view skills, view certifications, manage skills, and manage certifications.
Customers using Dimensions integration must manage skills and certifications in Dimensions; the system of record for skills and certifications. User inputs in this application via editing rights will be overwritten by Dimensions when synchronization takes place. All historical skills and certifications associated with an employee including expired specialties are sent to this application.
Dimensions displays only currently active skills and certifications. Disabled skills and certifications remain disabled unless imported via the person import process. This means if a person is imported via Dimensions with a skill that is disabled in this application, then the integration will enable that skill in this application.
