Task Manager Field Descriptions

Task Manager General Tab

The General area contains information generic to the Task itself. From this tab you can enter a name and description for the Task and view its last run data.

Field TM General Tab Description
Job Status Jobs can be individually enabled or disabled. This allows the user to temporarily disable a Job that may not be needed without having to delete it. A user can also enable the jobs that were disabled due to failure.
Name Enter a name for the new job or rename an existing job.
Description Enter a description for the job, or summarize all the task under this job.
Run Schedule Displays the status of the job. For example: last time the Task ran (Time), how long the Task took to run (Duration), and the description of the outcome of the last run (Description).
Email when job complete Use to send a notification if the Task Job was successful.
Email when task(s) fail Use to send a notification if the Task Job failed.
 
Note:

Select both Email when job complete and Email when task(s) fail to always be notified.

Recipient Address Enter a valid email address for the recipient.
Sender Address Enter a valid email address for the sender.

Task Manager Task Tab

Task tab contains all of the tasks available. Select the task type from the corresponding menu-box to access the properties for the desired task type.

Add Use to add a new task within the selected job
Task Status Use to enable or disable the selected task only.
Name Task name.
Description This is generally the description used to describe the purpose or function of the selected Task Type. This text can be any descriptive text; it has no impact on the operation of the Task or Task Type.
 
Note: The text entered in the Description text box is the text that will appear in the text box under the Task-Type drop-down list in the Task Properties area.
Run Condition By default a Task will not run if any previous Task within the same Job fails. This behavior, however, can be changed. Self-descriptive Only run if...choices are:
  • All previous Task succeeded

  • The previously run Task succeeded.

  • Any previous Task succeeded

  • The previous run Task failed

  • All previously Tasks failed

  • Any previous Task failed

  • Always run

Task Type Contains task types. Select a type from the list to display the definition of the selected task.
Parameters panel Parameter values are specific to the Task Type. Available parameters display for each specific task type. Parameters required are identified with an asterisk *.
 
Note:

If the parameter specifies a text only entry, a cursor displays in the cell and you may type the data required. Otherwise use the drop-down menu box to display your options, such as dynamic date entry, file browse, or selecting an item.

Task Manager Schedule Tab

There are various ways to create a schedule to initiate task jobs. Schedules may run one time, use a Cron expression, or a Dynamic Date (Advanced).

Add Use to add a new schedule within the selected job
Schedule Status Use to enable or disable the selected schedule.
Description This is generally the description used to describe the purpose or function of the selected schedule. This text has no impact on the operation of the Task or Task Schedule.
Schedule Type Schedule types. Each type has its own way of defining when a "next run time" will happen. Choices are: One time, Advanced (Dynamic Date), Cron Expression.
Schedule Options Schedule options display for each Schedule Type.
Next Run Time Displays the next time the job will run based on the schedule settings. If the defined schedule has no future run time; for example, a One Time schedule set in the past, the Next Run displays "Never” and means there will never be a future run time for the Schedule as configured.
Note:

Use the Next Run area to validate that you have correctly configured the schedule.

Don’t Run Before Limits the effective start date of the Schedule.
Don’t Run After Limits the lifetime of the Schedule. Combined with the No Run Before field, the schedule can be defined to only run for a defined period of time.
