Configure a Shift Pattern

Review Shift concepts and reference sections and determine if shift naming conventions are required to feed a third party system. The start of a shift pattern must be accurate when required by your business rules to make staffing decisions OR to define acceptable bidding patterns when using the auction module. To edit or create a new Shift in the Shifts section of the Setup area:

  1. Select a shift and click Edit; or click Add to create a shift.
  2. Name the Shift.
  3. Type the abbreviation for this shift.
  4. Enter the Shift information that is relevant to your organization. To create a pattern you must start with a blank calendar. Additionally, every Shift requires two full repeating cycles to define when this Shift is working. Options are:
    • Click Clear Pattern to remove the previous shift pattern.
    • Hold down the Shift key to select consecutive days.
    • Hold down the <Ctrl> key to select non-consecutive days
  5. On the blank calendar, select every working (on-duty) day for two full repeating cycles (two tours of duty). The start of the first working day must coincide with the start of the pay cycle, or the start of the FLSA cycle when applicable. For example, if the work week starts Monday 6/24, 2013, and the first working day for this shift starts on Wednesday 6/26/2013 then start this shift pattern on 6/26/2013.
    1. To select non-consecutive days, hold the <Ctrl> key while clicking on the calendar.
    2. To select consecutive days, hold the Shift key while clicking on the calendar.
    3. To extend the number of weeks in view, use the Weeks (5-53) menu box and scroll forward or backward, if needed.
  6. Click New Pattern to display the new shift pattern.
  7. Click Save.
