About Shift Groups

Shift Groups are used to combine shifts to target a group of shifts simultaneously instead of one shift at a time.

For example, suppose you have several distinct shifts running during the day, and some run in the evening. Using Shift Groups, you can place all of the day shifts in a shift group and label as ‘Days’, and place all of the night shifts in another shift group and label it ‘Nights’, or it could be by location, such as North, South, Facility, State, County; simply said, shift groups allow you to further categorize your shifts and treat them as sets for the purpose of filtering rather than distinct shifts.

Shift Groups are optional and used in any or all of the following areas:

Rules: Use shift groups for staffing purposes to target a set of shifts simultaneously instead of one shift at a time.

Signup Shift Group: Signup shift groups are used to assign a target shift for non-working days. Shift groups may be required for signup codes and time on requests when the default 24 hour timeperiod is not desired specifically when adding workcodes on non-working days.

Calendar Shift Group: Used to display different shifts on a person’s calendar and most commonly used to facilitate shift trade requests.

The default view for the calendar only displays the person’s shift days or duty days. Some users may need to view the duty days of other shifts. For, example, when trading time a user may want to see other shifts to know who to trade time with.

To see all of the shifts within a shift group, assign the desired shift group in the person’s Profile tab. Once enabled, that group of shifts will be visible on the person’s calendar.
